In de afgelopen paar jaren zien we steeds vaker retrosoul en de sound uit de 70's en 80's terugkomen in de muziek van tegenwoordig. Denk aan gigantische hits als 'Get Lucky' en 'Blurred Lines', maar ook artiesten als Leon Bridges, Charles Bradley en Vintage Trouble. Wij bij NPO Soul & Jazz juichen deze ontwikkeling alleen maar toe, want in onze ogen is dit muziek in zijn puurste vorm. Zo ontstaat daar ook ineens de groep Young Gun Silver Fox. De groep bestaat uit (producer en multi-instrumentalist) Shawn Lee en Andy Platts (de frontman van Mamas Gun). De twee hebben een plaat van tien nummers uit de muziekmachine weten te persen en leveren daarmee een sound die als een mix van Electric Light Orchestra, Doobie Brothers en Steely Dan valt te omschrijven, maar boven alles gewoon ontzettend lekker klinkt. Pop uit de 70's met een vleugje funk en soul.
