A novel substance for the treatment of severe bacterial infections has been developed to work without antibiotics. Scientists say that this would prevent the development of antibiotic resistance. Scientists engineered artificial nanoparticles made of lipids, "liposomes" that closely resemble the membrane of host cells. These liposomes act as decoys for bacterial toxins and so are able to sequester and neutralize them.

Biofilms are matrix-enclosed communities of bacteria that show increased antibiotic resistance and the capability to evade the immune system. They can cause recalcitrant infections which cannot be cured with classical antibiotic therapy. Drug delivery by lipid or polymer nanoparticles is considered a promising strategy for overcoming biofilm resistance.

Strategies such as the use of fusogenic liposomes, targeting of the nanoparticles and triggered release of the antimicrobial agent ensured the delivery of the antimicrobial agent in close proximity of the bacterial cells, maximizing the exposure of the biofilm to the antimicrobial agent. The majority of the discussed papers still present data on the in vitro anti-biofilm activity of nanoformulations, indicating that there is an urgent need for more in vivo studies in this field.

Als ik me niet vergis, maar ik heb wat gaten in mijn geheugen , is het begonnen in de sportwereld.
Het gebruik van zilver nanodeeltjes in sportkleding om zweetluchtjes te voorkomen.

Dat de medische wereld (muv de brandwondensector) er niet zo happig op lijkt te zijn, verbaasd mij niet:
straks moeten ze nog de effectievere, efficiëntere werking van zilver gaan erkennen
en daar zitten de mannen van aanzien, status en macht niet op te wachten
gezichts- uhh omzetverlies

Dus ik denk dat je wel een punt hebt, maar ik denk dat er meer speelt.
Vlak ook de invloed van Europa (bv de Codex Alimentarius) in deze context niet uit..

Dat is toch die groep "rijke landen" met FAO( Food and Agricultural Organisation) en WHO aan de top die met de scepter zwaaien?
Misschien dat de WHO hier eens naar kan gaan kijken? (hoewel er wel vaccinaties voor Ebola zijn aangemaakt......)
