Ceres Nanosciences, Inc. (Ceres) announced Tuesday the publication of a three year 300-person clinical study in the Journal of Translational Medicine. The study, titled: “Application of Nanotrap technology for high sensitivity measurement of urinary outer surface protein A carboxyl‐terminus domain in early stage Lyme borreliosis” documents the development and data behind Ceres’ groundbreaking test for Lyme disease. The clinical study was led by George Mason University in partnership with four patient clinics in northern VA and MD. The test is the first highly-sensitive urine based test capable of directly detecting the Lyme protein antigen in a patient at any stage of infection.

De initiële resultaten van Innatoss lieten zien dat de OspA biomarker die door de Nanotrap® Lyme Antigen test gedetecteerd wordt, óf niet aanwezig is in patiënten die besmet zijn met de Europese Borrelia stammen, óf in zulke lage hoeveelheden aanwezig zijn dat ze niet gedetecteerd kunnen worden.

Aangezien de Nanotrap® Lyme Antigen test ontwikkeld en geoptimaliseerd was om Lyme vast te stellen in Amerikaans patiënten, zijn additionele onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingsactiviteiten nodig om betere biomarkers te identificeren voor de Europese stammen. Om deze reden is de lancering van de Nanotrap® Lyme Antigen test in Europa uitgesteld, terwijl de monsters van Europese patiënten verder onderzocht worden, met als doel om een geschikte biomarker te vinden. De hoop is dat deze samenwerking zal leiden tot de ontwikkeling van een versie van de Nanotrap® Lyme Antigen test die geschikt is voor gebruik in Europa.
