Myelitis involves the infection or the inflammation of the white matter or gray matter of the spinal cord which is a part of the central nervous system that acts as a bridge between the brain and the rest of the body. During an inflammatory response in the spinal cord, the myelin and axon may be damaged causing symptoms such as paralysis and sensory loss. Myelitis is classified to several categories depending on the area or the cause of the lesion; however, people often refer to any inflammatory attack on the spinal cord as transverse myelitis.

Acute Myelitis and Lyme Disease

INTRODUCTION:

Acute myelitis accounts for 4 to 5 percent of all cases of neuroborreliosis. In the literature, simultaneous spinal MRI and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) investigations are presented for only 8 cases. We describe here 3 cases of acute Lyme myelitis.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we report the case of a patient with ATM caused by Lyme neuroborreliosis with surprisingly few clinical signs-in contrasts to the severe MRI and CSF findings. If there is strong clinical suspicion of Lyme neuroborreliosis-irrespective of a history of a recent tick bite

Transverse myelitis is a neurological condition in which the spinal cord is inflamed. The inflammation damages nerve fibers, and causes them to lose their myelin coating leading to decreased electrical conductivity in the central nervous system. Transverse implies that the inflammation extends across the entire width of the spinal cord.[1] Partial transverse myelitis and partial myelitis are terms used to define inflammation of the spinal cord that affects part of the width of the spinal cord.[1]

Spondylodiscitis Infectie in de wervelkolom

In deze informatie wordt borreliose wel niet benoemd maar het is zeer zeker een par example welk een schade een bacterie veroorzaken kan.

De diagnose spondylodiscitis wordt vaak pas laat gesteld. Dit komt doordat veel mensen eerst een onschuldige periode van rugpijn doormaken zonder veel ziekteverschijnselen. De aandoening komt vaker voor bij mensen met een verminderd afweersysteem. Daarnaast kan een spondylodiscitis ontstaan na een eerdere infectie ergens anders in het lichaam. Hierbij zijn dan bacteriën in de bloedbaan terecht gekomen en vervolgens in de tussenwervelschijf.
